Freaky Nation Records & Academy is a Portsmouth-based hybrid music ecosystem founded by DJ, producer, and educator Gary Wood. We bridge the gap between emerging talent and a sustainable career in the global electronic music scene.

Operating on a dual-platform model, we solve two major industry challenges: giving dance music artists a platform to release authentic, groove-focused music, and teaching producers the exact workflows needed to finish and sign their tracks.

What We Do:

  • The Record Label: We currently release dependable, club-ready digital Deep Tech and Minimal Techno tailored specifically for working DJs, with plans to expand into physical vinyl releases in 2027. Our catalogue features artists like GUMR, Ollie Drummond, Terry Francis, and Jake Beautyman.

  • The Academy: We offer high-impact 1:1 coaching, including our flagship 12-week accelerator programme, The Release Roadmap: Studio to Signed. We give producers personalised mentorship to overcome DAW overload, fix their mixing, and turn hard drives full of 8-bar loops into label-ready EPs.

  • Live Events & Platform: We host custom release launch events across Portsmouth for every release. These nights serve a dual purpose: providing a real-world platform for local and label artists to DJ, while bringing established, bigger-name guest DJs into the Portsmouth scene to elevate the city's electronic music culture.

Our Portsmouth Mission: We are passionate about upskilling local creatives and providing a clear pathway from the local scene to the global stage. By uniting digital releases, live showcases, top-tier headliners, and 1:1 music production coaching, Freaky Nation is cultivating an inclusive and thriving dance music ecosystem right here in the city.
